DCS School News – June 8, 2020
We would like to provide you an update about some of the happenings at DCS in the next few weeks.

Prom 2020 Information

On Saturday, June 13th, we will be having a celebration for our four DCS graduates:
  • Cole Buchanan
  • William Norris
  • Jesse Thorpe
  • Dailey Wollen.
The formal part of our program will be held individually with each graduate and their family so that we can remain within the provincial guidelines for outdoor gatherings. During this time, graduates will receive some words of advice from our staff as well as some stories from their years at DCS and will be presented their Grade 12 scrolls – all from a safe distance. Due to restrictions on outdoor gatherings, this part of the program will be closed to the public.
But wait! There’s more! At 4:00 p.m., we will be hosting a community parade where our graduates will be escorted through the streets of town by the Dinsmore Fire Department and by our RCMP School Liaison, Constable Kimball. There are programs available at different businesses in the community.
In order to stay within provincial health guidelines, we require that all community members watching the parade from the route maintain physical distancing of 2 meters. The weather looks promising so we hope to see many community members along the parade route, perhaps sitting in lawnchairs and enjoying a chance to congratulate our graduates.

A special thank you to Shanda Mann for doing such a spectacular job of the grad photos on a windy day and to our many community sponsors. We will give a more complete shout out next week so we don't miss anyone!

Kindergarten Grad
This year, DCS has seven Kindergarten graduates. These students will also be part of history as their first year in school has been cut short. However, we would still like to recognize their achievements in a Virtual Kindergarten Celebration! Mrs. Baratta will be creating a movie with memories from our year at DCS and certificates will be sent to each family. Congratulations to our Kindergarten Graduates:
  • Neve Blackwell
  • Claire Braniff
  • Paisley Cragg
  • Layne Keeler
  • Bekah McNeill
  • Wyatt Noonan
  • Mason Poirier

Showcase Dates
In lieu of a DCS Student Showcase/Awards program at the school, this year we are presenting a Showcase Week where we will share a video to celebrate our award winners. Videos will be shared on our school Facebook page as well as on our school website.
  • Monday, June 15 – Academic Awards
  • Tuesday, June 16 – Athletic Awards
  • Wednesday, June 17 – ExtraCurricular Recognition and Awards
  • Thursday, June 18 – Community Recognition
  • DCS Virtual Exhibit will also be featured throughout the week.
DCS Virtual Art Exhibit
  • We know that DCS has a lot of creative students who may be using some of their at-home learning time to stretch their artistic skills. K12 students are invited to participate in a virtual art exhibit by simply sending a picture of artwork they have created at home to either their teacher or to Mrs. Ballek.
  • Submissions can include pictures of drawings, colouring, painting, photography, animated art (such as GIFs), etc. Let your imagination run wild!
  • Submissions are due June 12, 2020, and will be uploaded to the school website the following week.  We look forward to seeing your creativity while you are at home!
Spirit Week – June 9 – 12th
As we gear up for the last three weeks, DCS will be having a virtual spirit week this week. We will be posting information about the upcoming days on our Facebook page which can also be seen on the website.
  • Tuesday, June 9 – Sport Day
  • Wednesday, June 10 – School Spirit Day
  • Thursday, June 11 – Crazy Hair Day
  • Friday, June 12 – Formal Day

Yearbook
Mrs. Morrison and her hard-working yearbook crew need your help! We are looking for pictures of at-home learning during the last months of the school year that we could include in our history-making 2019-2020 yearbook. Be a part of our school’s history by sharing a picture. You can send pictures by text or email to Mrs. Morrison (shauna.morrison@sunwestsd.ca).

Technology Drop Off
The week of June 22nd, we will be opening the school for device drop off. We need to collect all school iPads and laptops so that they can be updated over the summer months.
Starting June 22, the school will be open in the afternoon for technology drop off. Please return each device in a clearly marked bag (e.g. plastic grocery bag will work).

Bus Distribution
DCS drivers continue to deliver print packages and materials to our rural students while Ms. Keeler is our in-town porch delivery person. This means that in town families can expect door deliveries shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Thursdays. Bus drivers contact families where they will be delivering materials. Note: Our final bus run will be on Thursday, June 25th.

Fall Planning
The Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health are working closely with school divisions to develop a re-entry plan for the fall. School principals and staff members were also given an opportunity to provide feedback to the division leadership team which will be used to create the fall planning document. We will share any communication for school re-entry as directed by the division. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Ballek by phone or email.

Website
We recognize that not all families have Facebook and so we wanted to let you know that we have been updating our DCS website with current content and information. Our Facebook feed runs through the website so even if you don’t have a Facebook account, you can stay up to date with our posts. As well, our website contains feature articles as well as helpful information about our bell schedule, fall supply lists, extra-curricular activities, school events, at-home learning and much, much more! Be sure to check us out at http://www.dinsmorecomposite.sunwestsd.ca/.
We will also be posting more information about our grad on the school website.

With only three weeks of school remaining, we are beginning to wrap up the year as we start planning for the fall. It is a busy time for staff and students as they work to complete outcomes. As always, please reach out to our staff or to myself if you have any questions. Hope to see you on Saturday!

Mrs. Jade Ballek
